Electricity in Cyprus, has a history of over 100 years. It was first appeared in the early 20th century and particularly in 1903 with the installation of the British colonial government of a generator for the purposes of the Commissioner in Nicosia. A second generator was installed shortly after the Nicosia General Hospital.

Electric Company was founded in Nicosia by the financial agent of the capital George Pierides. Naturally, Limassol and Nicosia, followed several years later (from 1922 onwards) and other cities. Specifically, in 1922, created Municipal Electric Companies in the towns of Famagusta, Larnaca ,Paphos and Kyrenia, City Hall has created Electric Company in 1927. Gradually acquired their own electric companies and several rural centers such as the form, Platres, Pedoulas, Paralimni, Lefkara, the dry, the white, etc.
