Church of Agia Paraskevi

Paphos - Religious Tourism

One of the oldest monuments of Cyprus. It is one of the most important elements of Greek Christian Identity.

The church of Agia Paraskevi is situated in the village of Geroskipou, only 3 km east of Paphos.

Church of Agia Paraskevi Geroskipou is a very important example of Byzantine architecture, which dates from the 9th century. Has not been ascertained whether the church is built on ruins of an ancient temple of Aphrodite.
According to tradition, the name Geroskipou comes from the sacred garden of the goddess, which existed south of the village towards the sea, where the pilgrims began the holy Palaipafos. It is probably the oldest temple dedicated to the Holy Cross. But today, the church is dedicated to the witness of Christianity, the Holy Friday.

Church of Agia Paraskevi Yeroskipou
