The creation of the Byzantine Museum of Arsinoe, is the result of moral commitments and our responsibilities arising from the cultural and religious heritage.

Inspired by the above, Bishop of Paphos Chrysostomos II and later archbishop of Cyprus, together with the Bishop Georgios of Arsinoe, later bishop of Paphos, worked towards the creation of the museum, aiming to contribute to the preservation, conservation and promotion of religious heritage.

Like most village churches located in the centre of the village.The Museum has one of the biggest collections of icons metal artwork, dating from the 13th to the 19th century. Also on display are woodcarvings, sacerdotal vestments and embroideries and several manuscripts sating back to 15th century.

The museum was completed in 2000 and was the result of collective work museologist, archaeologists, architects and art conservators.


In the surroundings of the Museum, the sacred relics and works of art can communicate with visitors, covering the broad scope of human activity on the art, browsing, knowledge and culture. At the same time, the museum touches the religious feelings of any visitor, as a whole old wooden screen (18 ° 0 century), is set up with old pictures, creating and emitting atmosphere of the interior of a church. Large number of the exhibits of the Museum date back to 13th and 19th century. Among them stands the image of St. George on horseback (13th century).

At the 17th century and particularly in 1628, we have the big picture of Christ "the Saviour of the World", which ranks projects with strong folklore elements.

Apart from the pictures and carvings, visitors can see at the Byzantine Museum and many other sacred relics. Among them are wood works as crosses blessing to wear silver. "Such a cross bearing the date 1908 and belonged to the then Bishop of Paphos James Antzoulato. The silversmithing and metalwork in the museum, represented by Holy Chalice and trays, crosses, cherubs, censer and oil lamps.

The museum exhibits also two priestly garments (18th-19th century) and the episcopal ordination outfit, donated by the then Metropolitan of Paphos and then Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II.
